Synopsis Manhwa A First of Summers
Lim Hyeonseon is a 40-year-old man leading an ordinary life, trapped in a boring daily routine. Realizing that he is getting older, he feels he must try something new before it’s too late. He finally decides to enroll in a local music academy to learn to play the guitar.
At the academy, Hyeonseon meets his guitar instructor, Cha Yeoreum. Yeoreum is a passionate, free-spirited young man who deeply loves music. The 16-year age gap does not hinder their closeness. Yeoreum’s caring and understanding nature slowly breaks down the walls Hyeonseon has built due to his self-doubt regarding his age.
Their relationship blossoms through sweet daily interactions, such as sharing food at a café, riding together, and sharing melancholic moments late at night after a rock concert. Although much younger, Yeoreum demonstrates a high level of emotional maturity. For example, he deeply respects Hyeonseon’s boundaries and does not take advantage of situations when she is distracted or intoxicated. This builds a very strong sense of trust between the two.
The main conflict in this story doesn’t stem from toxic third-party drama, but rather from internal struggles. Hyeonseon briefly feels uneasy and doubts whether she deserves to be with a young man like Yeoreum, whose future is still wide open.
